Public Service Assistant (part-time)

The library is seeking an adaptable person to deliver great customer service to library patrons of all ages and backgrounds. You will help patrons locate and use library resources, and become knowledgeable of overall library operations.

We need someone to:

  • Share their passion for books and reading by talking about and offering meaningful recommendations of the latest books, movies and music.
  • Help patrons download apps or use computers. Register patrons for library cards, help with fees, check items in and out, place items on hold, track down books, help patrons sign up for programs, orchestrate the opening and closing of the library, etc.
  • Between helping patrons, handle a multitude of clerical and inventory tasks to keep the library running efficiently and effectively, including shelving materials.
  • Serve as safety monitor, maintain a safe space for all, and step in when needed.
  • Adapt well to change, are eager to learn new things and share them with others.
  • Love meeting and talking with people. You are not shy.
  • Advocate for the library’s vision, mission and core values.

Requires:

  • High school diploma or GED plus one year of customer service experience.
  • Positive customer service experience is essential.
  • Solid knowledge of computer and Internet operations, including use of apps.
  • Ability to maintain high level of accuracy in tasks and confidentiality of transactions.

Details:

  • $13.00 per hour; 18 hours per week.
  • Works at any service desk as needed (Checkout, Youth, and Information). May work at Walbridge library or Jail Library to cover vacation/sick leave absences.
  • Work hours are flexible, yet based on library needs (and include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts).
