From the Director, Fall 2022
What a summer we’ve had! It’s hard to condense all of the success the library has had over the summer months. We’ve explored oceans of possibilities with our Summer Reading Program, celebrated our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten graduates, raised money for new books in 2023 with our annual Novel Night Benefit, and so much more.
Our Summer Reading Program: Oceans of Possibilities was a great success with over 1,200 children registered. It was a joy to see families visiting the library to checkout new books, learn about our oceans and waterways, and see teens volunteering their time for programs. Though we’re sad to see this time of summer reading end, we look forward to serving families, children, and teens during the back to school season and beyond.
In a celebration of our early literacy initiative, the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading challenge graduates came together for a Pout-Pout Fish Party this summer. With over 300 families visiting the library, it certainly was a party! We are so proud of these Royal Readers for achieving this milestone. If you’re not enrolled already, be sure to register for our 1000 Books program, and for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which you can find out more about on page 4.
I’m also thrilled to share that another huge success this summer was our annual Novel Night Benefit. Through the support of event sponsors, ticket buyers, in-kind item donors, and bidders for the live and silent auctions, Novel Night raised just over $100,000. All of these funds will be added on top of the usual budget for the purchase of books in 2023. Thank you cannot be said enough; we are so grateful for your support.
Even as we look back over the amazing summer we’ve had, we also look forward to many of the eventful things happening this fall and winter. We’re excited to host author and actor Danny Trejo on Saturday, October 1 for the WCDPL Foundation Series, and we have plenty of other programs and events for people of every age.
There is so much to explore and find at your library! We hope you’ll join us as we finish this year strong and look forward to bringing you another year of services, programs, and of course, books at your library.
See you at the library,
