Public Service Assistant - Information Services (part-time)

The library seeks a candidate to deliver great customer service to library patrons of all ages and backgrounds.  You will help patrons locate and use effectively use library resources

We need someone to:

  • Share their passion for books and reading by offering meaningful recommendations to others.

  • Help patrons download apps, use computers, register for library cards, check items in and out, place items on hold, track down books, sign up for programs, orchestrate the opening and closing of the library, help coworkers with library events, etc. 

  • Between helping patrons, handle a multitude of clerical and inventory tasks to keep the library running efficiently and effectively, including shelving materials.

  • You serve as host, role model, and safety monitor – maintaining a safe environment for all those visiting the library. You enforce the Code of Conduct with all patrons.

  • Adapt well to change, are eager to learn new things and share them with others.

  • Love meeting and talking with people.  You are not shy.

  • Advocate for the library’s vision, mission and core values.

Requires: 

  • High school diploma or GED plus one year of customer service experience.

  • Positive customer service experience is essential.

  • Solid knowledge of computer and Internet operations, including use of apps.

  • Ability to maintain high level of accuracy in tasks and confidentiality of transactions.

  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under library policy.

Details:

  • $13.00 to $14.50 per hour DOE; 20.0 hours per week.

  • Primarily works at the Information Desk, but will be cross-trained and assigned to cover Children’s, Circulation, Walbridge, and the Jail Library to help cover gaps due to vacations and illnesses.

  • Work hours are flexible, yet based on library needs (morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts).
